Guruthi is a term used in Kerala's tantric and traditional rituals especially in Kaula, Shakta and Mantrikam lineages.
It is one of the most ancient and powerful ritual - a blood-symbolic offering (without actual blood) during fierce (ugra) kriyas. The red Guruthi mixture represents rakta shakti – the life-force that Devi uses to destroy negativity and protect devotees.
MEANING
Traditionally, Guruthi uses no real blood. Instead, a below potent mixture is used.
Turmeric
Lime (chunnambu)
Water / tender coconut water
When mixed, it turns deep red, symbolising raktha (blood).
PURPOSE
Guruti is offered to fierce deities or guardians to:
Neutralize graha doshas
Neutralise distubances caused by preta, pishacha other evil spirits
Appease Ugra devatas (Bhadrakali, Gana devatas, Bhoota ganas)
Remove obstacles, black-magic effects, karmic anger
Restore energetic balance of the space or person
At Kallur Mana, Guruthi is offered every month for Kali Devi. If required, you can schedule a Guruthi Pooja with us.
