Why Horoscope Alone May Not Be Enough

For centuries, people have turned to their horoscope seeking answers to life’s challenges. A birth chart can reveal important information about a person’s nature, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and difficult periods in life.
It can often indicate what may happen and when it may happen.
However, in the traditional Kerala system, a horoscope is often only the beginning of the investigation—not the conclusion.
Two individuals may have similar planetary combinations in their charts, yet their lives may unfold very differently. One may experience only minor obstacles, while another may face repeated setbacks despite sincere effort and favourable planetary periods.
This is where traditional Prashna systems become important.
When the Horoscope Raises Questions
There are situations where the birth chart indicates suffering or obstruction but does not clearly reveal its origin.
For example:
Why does a person repeatedly face obstacles despite strong planetary support?
Why do medical reports appear normal, yet unexplained difficulties continue?
Why do marriages get delayed despite favourable combinations?
Why do businesses fail repeatedly despite proper planning and effort?
Why do some families experience recurring patterns of illness, conflict, financial loss, or emotional distress?
Traditional Kerala astrologers recognised that some questions require deeper inquiry beyond the natal chart.
Understanding the Root Cause
In traditional belief systems, certain difficulties may arise from influences that are not always clearly visible in the birth chart alone.
These may include:
Shapa Duritas (Curses or Ancestral Afflictions)
Pitru Related Afflictions
Devata Related Imbalances
Negative Influences and Spiritual Disturbances and many more
Why Kavadi Prashna Is Different
While a horoscope studies the moment of birth, Kavadi Prashna studies the moment of inquiry/time.
The underlying principle is that the universe reflects the condition of the seeker at the exact time the question is asked.
Traditional practitioners therefore use Kavadi Prashna to explore:
The root cause of a problem
Whether the issue is karmic, ancestral, planetary, environmental, or spiritual in nature
The severity of the situation
Whether remedial measures are necessary
Which remedies may be most appropriate
The horoscope often answers: “What may happen, and when?”
Kavadi Prashna seeks to answer: “Why is it happening, and what can be done about it?”
The Importance of Correct Diagnosis
If a person suffers from a fever, treating only the symptom without identifying the cause may provide only temporary relief.
Similarly, traditional astrology teaches that remedies are most effective when the root cause is properly understood.
A delay caused by planetary timing may require patience.
A difficulty arising from ancestral obligations may require ancestral remedies.
An issue connected to spiritual imbalance may require entirely different corrective measures.
Without identifying the source of the problem, remedies may become ineffective or unnecessarily repeated.
A Holistic Approach
Traditional Kerala astrology never viewed the horoscope as an isolated tool.
Instead, it combined multiple methods of understanding. True guidance does not merely predict events. It seeks to understand their origin, their purpose, and the path towards resolution. Because sometimes knowing what is happening is not enough.
To move forward, one must also understand why it is happening.
