Naga Dosha, also known as Sarpa Dosha, is an astrological condition believed to arise due to negative karmic influences from past or present life actions, especially those involving harm to snakes (naga/sarpa) or their natural habitats.
Astrological Importance
This dosha is identified by specific planetary placements in a person’s birth chart (horoscope)—particularly the positioning of Rahu and Ketu in certain houses or conjunctions.
Rahu/ketu, in this context, does not merely symbolize snakes, but also represents Prakriti (nature) and creatures within Prakriti (Nature) itself.
When Rahu/ketu is in unfavorable position in one's horoscope, it is believed that the person is not receiving the blessings of Nature/nagas, leading to imbalance and obstacles.
An experienced astrologer can detect Naga Dosha by analyzing the Janma Kundali (birth chart) or through Prashna (horary astrology).
Effects of Naga Dosha
Naga Dosha is said to cause several issues, such as:
Delays in marriage or childbirth
Relationship issues
Health problems
Financial difficulties
General life obstacles and lack of success in life
Hence, it is considered important to appease the Naga Devatas (serpent deities) and perform appropriate remedial rituals.

Ashta-naga Pooja
A ritual worship of the Eight Divine Serpents (Ashta Nagas), involving transferring of the dosha onto serpent idols and appeasing them with offerings.
Temple Visits and Rituals
Based on individual horoscopes, we may recommend specific temples devoted to Naga Devatas for performing Sarpabali or Ashlesha Bali, rituals specifically meant for pacifying serpent energies.
Rahu/ketu's Placement and Customized Remedies:
The effects of Naga Dosha vary depending on the placement of Rahu/ketu. For instance:
If Rahu is in the 5th house, the individual may face difficulties in conceiving children.
But, if the 5th house is under the aspect (drishti) of Guru (Jupiter), some relief may occur.
However, proper appeasement of Rahu and the Lord of the afflicted house is still essential afterwhich, the rahu graha dosha is removed by Avahana.
In some cases, we may ask the person to grow Navadhanya (nine grains), placement of the idol in these grains and do the Avahana.
Note:
Each case is unique, and personalized consultation is recommended before rituals.
